Electrical Power Restoration

DJ Edwards Solar and Electrical; providing Electrical Power restoration across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast

Electrical Power Restoration Brisbane | DJ Edwards Solar & Electrical

When the power goes out in your Brisbane home or business, the first question is always the same — is it just me, or is it the whole street? That single answer determines everything that happens next. If it's the street, you call Energex and wait. If it's just your property, you need a licensed electrician, and you need one who actually picks up the phone.

DJ Edwards has been handling electrical power restoration in Brisbane since 1999. We know the difference between a tripped safety switch and a failed main switch. We know what storm damage does to residential wiring. We know which faults are quick fixes and which ones need a full investigation. That experience is what gets your power back on faster and keeps it on.

First Things to Check Before You Call

Before you pick up the phone, run through these steps. They take two minutes and might save you a callout fee.

Check your safety switches and circuit breakers. Open your switchboard and look at the breaker positions. A tripped breaker sits visibly between the on and off position — not fully up, not fully down. Reset it by pushing it fully off then back on. If it trips again immediately, there's a fault on that circuit and you'll need an electrician to find it.

Check your safety switch. Safety switches — the ones with the test button — protect against earth faults and electrocution. If yours has tripped, it means something on that circuit has an earth fault. Unplug everything on the affected circuit, reset the safety switch, then plug appliances back in one at a time to find the faulty one. If the safety switch keeps tripping with nothing plugged in, the fault is in the wiring itself.

Check Energex's outage map. If your whole property is without power and the switchboard looks normal, check Energex's outage map before calling anyone. A network fault in your area will show up there and Energex will be managing the restoration — no electrician required.

If none of the above resolves it, that's when you need DJ Edwards.

What Causes Residential Power Outages in Brisbane

Home owner inspecting switchboard after blackout

Queensland's storm season runs October through April. Lightning strikes, water ingress into meter boxes, and surge damage to internal wiring are all common — and the fault is often on your side of the meter, not Energex's. See our storm damage and makesafe inspection service for what to do first.

Storm damage

The main switch can fail with age or after a surge event, cutting power to the whole property even though the Energex supply is intact. This is Level 2 electrical work in Queensland — not all electricians are licensed to fix it. DJ Edwards holds the relevant accreditation.

Failed main switch or meter box faults

EV chargers, ducted air conditioning, and solar inverters pushing through circuits sized for 1970s households cause persistent tripping that looks like a fault but is actually an undersized installation.

How DJ Edwards Restores Power to Brisbane Properties

Every power restoration job starts the same way — with a systematic fault-finding process, not guesswork.

We work through the electrical system from the supply point inward. Energex supply confirmed, main switch tested, individual circuits isolated and tested, wiring continuity checked. This approach finds the fault efficiently rather than replacing components until something works — which is how some electricians operate and how callouts turn into expensive half-day jobs.

For straightforward faults — a failed breaker, a faulty appliance causing a safety switch to trip, or a blown main fuse — most Brisbane properties are back on power within an hour of us arriving on site.

For more complex faults — wiring damage, failed isolators, storm-related damage to multiple circuits — we give you a clear assessment of what's wrong, what it will take to fix it, and what it will cost before we do any work. No surprises on the invoice.

For Level 2 electrical work — anything involving the metering equipment, service fuse, or the connection between the Energex network and your main switchboard — DJ Edwards holds the Queensland Level 2 ASP accreditation required to carry out this work legally. A lot of general electricians don't, which means they can diagnose a meter box fault but can't fix it. We can do both. You can read more about what Level 2 electrical work involves at Worksafe classes of licences

Power Restoration for Brisbane Businesses

A commercial power outage isn't just an inconvenience — it's lost revenue, potentially spoiled stock, disrupted operations, and unhappy customers. DJ Edwards prioritises commercial power restoration callouts because we understand what downtime actually costs.

For Brisbane businesses in industrial precincts like Wacol, Rocklea, and Acacia Ridge, three-phase power faults are a specific risk. Three-phase systems are more complex than single-phase residential supplies and faults can be harder to locate without the right testing equipment. We carry three-phase testing equipment on every commercial callout.

For retail and hospitality businesses, after-hours power restoration is often the only option — you can't close the restaurant on a Saturday night to wait for an electrician Monday morning. DJ Edwards is available for urgent commercial electrical callouts across Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Preventing Power Outages — What Actually Helps

Surge protection is the single most cost-effective prevention measure for Brisbane homes and businesses. A whole-home surge protection device installed at your switchboard absorbs voltage spikes from lightning strikes and grid fluctuations before they damage your internal wiring and connected equipment. Given Brisbane's storm season, it's not optional for any property that's had surge-related issues. See our surge protection installation service for more detail.

A scheduled electrical safety check every few years catches developing faults — loose connections, degraded insulation, overloaded circuits — before they cause an outage. For older Brisbane homes that haven't had a licensed electrician through in the last decade, it's the most practical thing you can do.

Call DJ Edwards on 0400 571 610 for electrical power restoration across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, and Moreton Bay — any time it matters.
