DJ Edwards Solar and Electrical; providing industrial electrical services across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast
Industrial Electricians Brisbane | DJ Edwards Solar & Electrical
A manufacturing facility in Wacol called us on a Thursday afternoon. One of their three-phase motors had tripped and wouldn't restart. Production was stopped. They had a delivery deadline the following morning and a floor supervisor who was increasingly stressed about what was sitting idle on the line.
The fault turned out to be a failed contactor in the motor control circuit, compounded by a loose terminal that had been generating heat for long enough to damage the surrounding wiring. The contactor was replaced, the terminal was properly terminated, and the circuit was tested under load before we left. They made their delivery deadline.
The supervisor mentioned afterwards that their previous industrial electrician had retired and they hadn't found a reliable replacement. They'd been putting off getting someone they trusted in to look at the board properly for over a year. That loose terminal had been in there the whole time.
Industrial electricians in Brisbane deal with consequences that are different in kind from residential or even commercial electrical work. Production downtime, equipment damage, and workplace safety incidents are all real outcomes when industrial electrical systems aren't maintained and repaired by people who know what they're doing.

What Makes Industrial Electrical Work Different

Industrial electrical work sits in its own category for good reason. The voltages are higher, the loads are heavier, the systems are more complex, and the consequences of failure are more immediate and more expensive.
Three-phase power systems. Most residential properties in Brisbane run on single-phase 230V supply. Industrial facilities run on three-phase 415V systems that power motors, compressors, welding equipment, HVAC systems, and production machinery. Working safely and effectively on three-phase systems requires specific training and experience that not every licensed electrician has.
Motor control systems. Industrial facilities rely on motor control circuits, variable speed drives, soft starters, and programmable logic controllers that manage how equipment starts, runs, and stops. Faults in these systems require someone who understands not just the electrical components but how they interact with the mechanical systems they control.
Higher fault currents. Industrial electrical faults carry more energy and happen faster than residential faults. The protection systems, testing equipment, and working practices required for safe industrial electrical work are substantially more involved than what residential electrical work requires.
Compliance obligations. Industrial workplaces in Queensland operate under workplace health and safety legislation that creates specific obligations around electrical safety. Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 Queensland, businesses must manage electrical risks and maintain electrical systems in safe condition. In an industrial context this isn't optional paperwork, it's a legal obligation with real consequences.
DJ Edwards has qualified industrial electricians with hands-on experience across Brisbane's industrial precincts. We know what industrial electrical work actually involves and we have the equipment, qualifications, and experience to carry it out properly.

Industrial Electrical Work We Carry Out

Motor and drive systems
Electric motors and their associated control equipment are the heart of most industrial operations in Brisbane. Motor starter faults, variable speed drive failures, contactor wear, and motor winding issues are all faults we diagnose and repair regularly. We carry common motor control components on our vehicles for the industrial precincts we service regularly, which means fewer delays waiting for parts.
Switchboard and distribution board work
Industrial switchboards carry substantially higher loads than commercial or residential boards and need to be maintained by electricians who understand the specific protection coordination and fault current ratings involved. DJ Edwards inspects, maintains, and upgrades industrial switchboards across Brisbane's manufacturing and warehousing precincts.
Cable installation and containment
Industrial environments require cable management systems, cable trays, conduit runs, and installation practices that are suited to the environment. Cables running through areas with chemical exposure, high temperatures, mechanical traffic, or heavy vibration need to be specified and installed correctly to survive the environment they're operating in.
Lighting upgrades for industrial facilities
Warehouse and factory lighting has changed significantly with LED technology. A well-designed LED lighting upgrade in an industrial facility typically cuts lighting energy consumption by 60 to 75 percent and dramatically improves lumen output and colour rendering at the working surface. In Brisbane's industrial precincts where facilities run long shifts, the return on investment is fast. DJ Edwards designs and installs LED lighting upgrades for industrial facilities with proper lux level calculations for the specific tasks carried out in each area.
Thermographic inspection and testing
Thermal imaging is one of the most valuable diagnostic tools in industrial electrical maintenance. A loose connection or overloaded conductor generates heat before it generates a fault. Scheduled thermographic inspections of switchboards, distribution boards, and motor control centres identify developing problems before they cause unplanned downtime. The Electrical Safety Office's guidance on thermographic testing explains why this is considered best practice for industrial electrical maintenance programs.
Solar for industrial facilities
Large roof areas on Brisbane's industrial buildings make them excellent candidates for commercial solar installations. A 100kW or larger solar system on an industrial facility running day shifts can offset a significant portion of daytime energy consumption. DJ Edwards designs and installs commercial and industrial solar systems and handles the full network connection process with Energex. See our commercial solar installation service for more detail on what industrial solar involves.
Industrial Preventative Maintenance Programs
The Wacol story at the start of this page is a good illustration of what happens when preventative maintenance gets deprioritised. A loose terminal that could have been identified and fixed during a scheduled inspection instead contributed to a production shutdown.
Industrial facilities that run preventative maintenance programs have fewer unplanned outages. That's not a marketing claim, it's the basic logic of finding developing faults before they become failures.
DJ Edwards structures preventative maintenance programs for industrial clients around what the facility actually needs rather than a fixed schedule that may not match the equipment's actual risk profile. High-criticality equipment gets inspected more frequently. Lower-risk circuits get checked less often. Every program includes thermographic scanning, insulation resistance testing, protection device testing, and written documentation of findings and recommended actions.
The documentation matters beyond its obvious function. WorkSafe Queensland investigators examining an electrical incident in a workplace will ask for evidence that the electrical installation was being properly maintained. A documented maintenance program with consistent records is the most straightforward evidence available. For more on what Queensland workplace electrical safety obligations actually require, the Electrical Safety Office's resources for businesses is the most current reference.

Brisbane's Industrial Precincts We Service
DJ Edwards carries out industrial electrical work across Brisbane's industrial zones regularly. Wacol, Rocklea, Darra, Acacia Ridge, Eagle Farm, Pinkenba, Hemmant, and Virginia are all areas where we work on a regular basis. We also service industrial and light manufacturing facilities across the Gold Coast, Ipswich, and Moreton Bay regions.
We understand the access requirements, site induction processes, permit-to-work systems, and after-hours work arrangements that industrial facilities typically require. Showing up to an industrial site without understanding how the site operates creates delays and safety risks. We've been working in Brisbane's industrial precincts long enough that we don't need to figure this out on arrival.
Getting Industrial Electrical Work Done Properly
The right industrial electrician for a Brisbane facility isn't necessarily the one with the lowest quote. It's the one who understands the systems they're working on, shows up when they say they will, communicates clearly about what they're doing and why, and produces the documentation that the facility's safety management system requires.
DJ Edwards has been providing industrial electrical services across Brisbane since 1999. If you're looking for a reliable industrial electrician to handle ongoing maintenance, fault repair, or a specific project, call us on 0400 571 610. We'll have a straight conversation about what you need and whether we're the right fit.
